Diese wirbelnden, geschwungenen Blätter, die erstmals in antiken griechischen Friesen und auf den Kapitellen korinthischer Säulen verwendet wurden, schmücken seitdem Wände und Gebäude. Morris fand dieses klassische Motiv ideal für sich wiederholende Muster und war überzeugt, dass das hier geschaffene große Muster perfekt für kleinere Räume geeignet sei und eine ruhigere Atmosphäre erzeuge als ein kleineres, dichtes Muster.
